MUHULA HUU NAFUNDISHA KISUKUMA!!!

Brief Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the linguistic analysis of Kisukuma – a Bantu language spoken in Tanzania We will look at the characteristic linguistic features of Kisukuma, including its phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax. We will also look at the social aspects of language, including language variation, language change and borrowing in Kisukuma. Since there are no good sources on Kisukuma language, we will examine its linguistic characteristics through a comparative approach.

Course Objectives
At the end of the semester, students are expected to (1) have a working understanding of the basic linguistic features and peculiar linguistic phenomena in Bantu languages and Kisukuma in particular and (2) have a clear understanding of the contribution of Bantu languages to Linguistic Theory. Graduate students, in particular, will be encouraged to pursue theoretical approaches to the linguistic phenomena that we will encounter in Kisukuma.

Evaluation
Each student will be required to write a high quality graduate-level final paper based on class discussion and readings. The topic selection will be made after discussion with the instructor. Feel free to seek the instructor’s assistance as you think about and proceed to write your papers. The paper must deal with linguistic phenomena in Kisukuma. The final version of the paper will be presented in class starting week 15, and it is due in class on the last day of class i.e. April 21st, 2010.

Hi nimeipenda na semister ijayo tufundishe Kikurya ama hata kihaya :-)

@Mt.

We acha tu!
